Last Friday, the gastric tube feeding Mrs. Terri Schiavo, who has been in vegetative state for 15 years due to the damage of cerebral cortex and is unlikely to have any sign of recovery, was removed, with the approval of regional court. It is expected that her death will come within two weeks. Such act of euthanasia, without any surprise, has triggered a series of fierce debates over one's rights to end the life of an unconscious one, and the conservative have requested the reinstallation of the feeding tube. Whether it is an unethical manipulation of life is debatable, though Mrs. Schiavo has once expressed such wish in a funeral where her husband and relatives were around, before the accident, such case has already gone beyond the sphere of ethnic, bringing out an agitation over the extent of power of court and government. Bush, in this farce, once again showing us his real face that always hides behind his smiley mask. Both Congress and Bush government wanted to override the decision of regional court, tried reconvening to pass a law allowing Schiavo's parents, who demand the replacement of the tube and are willing to take care of the daughter, to have the rights to appeal to federal court. Though federal court overruled such appeal, this action was no doubt a battle between the rule of law and the rule of man. Interesting enough, right? A country, which has always been uphold and claimed as the world's most democratic state, is undergoing an anti-constitution movement. Bush, what are you going to say? Last week, a school shooting in Minnesota, which the 16-year-old killer pumped up with Nazi ideas, claimed the lives of 15 people, and with which the questions of "whiteness" and possession of gun has been brought to the surface. Are these not something exigent that should be dealt with at the very moment? These issues both relate to security, thing that Bush government has highly regard. Yet, where is Bush? Bush is in fact playing us a game of deception, through which one's attention would be distracted away from the blunder he made. Bush government does not support gun regulation, for it has received lots of financial support from the gun merchants, and any harsh regulation will not bring any mutual benefit for Bush and his best friend - the arms industry. This shooting somewhat revealed the dark side of issue of guns' possession among civilians, and yet any high-profile action would certainly result into disadvantage to the government. So, although 15 people were killed, Mr. Smart Bush chose to keep silence. Apparently, the case of Schiavo at this moment helps camouflage Bush's liability on the spread of weapons and bring this to the least attention. On top of it, Bush transformed the case into his own fancy masquerade, danced in domino and enjoyed another good time with his devoted audience. The king of hypocrisy, Bush, you are well-deserved. |
